Safe Bars trains people who work in bars, restaurants, and clubs in bystander intervention skills. We’ve trained about 40 establishments in DC. We’ve also helped 16 cities and towns set up their own Safe Bars programs.
We’re hiring people to join our passionate, talented team. We’re looking for people who:
- understand bystander intervention as one strategy for ending oppression,
- have some teaching, training, or facilitation skills,
- are “people people”: empathetic, compassionate, good listeners,
- are open to learning about trauma,
- are reliable: Show up on time and prepared, and
- live in the DC area.
Native Spanish speakers, people of color, LGBTQ+/non-binary people, and people with disabilities encouraged to apply.
We’ll train you to be an instructor: It doesn’t matter if you know bystander intervention. We can teach that to you. It is a plus if you’ve been a teacher or facilitator before.
Flexible, part-time engagements: All instructors work when they’re available. You can work around your other commitments, and as little or much as you want. This is not full-time work. Apprentices start at $25 per teaching hour and current top pay is $70 per teaching hour.
We’re especially looking for trainers with native Spanish fluency, daytime flexibility, and/or availability to travel. Current or past work in the hospitality industry a plus.
Please let us know your interest by emailing a copy of your resume (or a list of your work experience) and one paragraph on why you want to do this work to this address by February 7. Training will take place Feb. 16 and 17.
